Thermal Nest Box Inspection Camera

Thermal cameras are not a replacement for conventional Nest Box Inspection Cameras, they are a supplementary tool employing a different photographic technology. Thermal imaging cameras detect heat rather than visible light, allowing clear observation in complete darkness unlike conventional cameras which require artificial illumination of the box or hollow with visible or infra-red light.

Thermal cameras convert temperature differences into visible contrast, warmer objects appear brighter, while cooler surroundings appear darker. They can detect animals, eggs or any warm object even if when concealed amongst nesting materials or when partially obstructed from view. Refer to the product photos above. Animals cannot hide from a Thermal camera their body heat and outline will give them away.

Thermal imaging provides a Non Invasive technique for detecting and video recording the presence of warm bodied animals in Tree Hollows, Nest Boxes & Cockatube type Nesting Tubes. The Germanium lens on our Thermal Camera has about twice the magnification of our other Nest Box Cameras giving it the ability to detect animals at distances up to 2 metres, great for hollow trees, very deep nest boxes and nesting tubes.

Camera transmits live video for viewing and recording on the included LCD-18 Monitor which mounts onto your extension pole, leaving both hands free. Ideal for group surveys & student participation as multiple LCD-18 Monitors can view & record the video feed from a single Thermal Camera.

Downward Looking Thermal Camera head is 34mm diameter X 60mm high and has 180mm of foward projection. Minimum nest box entry hole will need to be at least 75mm or larger. Also available in a Forward Looking version with 35mm diameter head. Power is provided from a rechargeable smart battery pack we even include a handy nylon battery pouch which cable ties to your pole. Includes pole mountable LCD-18 Monitor with charger. Camera screws onto any painter’s type extension pole that has a 3/4" x 5TPI thread which looks like this.

This Monarch 1.8~3.6m pole from Bunnings for around $42 is suitable for nest boxes up to heights of 4~5 metres.
